About The Speaker
David J. Carey
David has had a varied, international career, specialised in implementing and managing technology. He was originally an underwater engineering and combat warfare specialist in the UK’s Royal Navy. He has been involved with asset management and planned maintenance for over forty-five years, around the globe, operating and maintaining seaborne, land-based and aviation-centric platforms. He has also managed mixed-use, geographically dispersed facilities in major property portfolios of complex, corporate organisations undergoing real estate investment reviews, service outsourcing programmes and benchmarking analysis. With a decade spent in South East Asia and, more recently, fourteen years in the Middle East, his commercial forte is raising productivity, by deploying technology to advantage in the built environment. Successful recent projects have involved implementing digitalisation, BIM and ERP systems, via business process re-engineering, working to ISO and BS standards; upgrading a government client’s FM efficiency and CRM capabilities; leading a winning FM bid for a KSA national, cultural, iconic campus; producing asset management reviews and FM strategies; and surveying 2.6 million m2 of commercial property. He has operated as a CEO, MD & board director for over twenty years, managing workforces of 3,500+. Graduating top of his year at Heriot-Watt University, David has presented technical conference papers on energy management, BIM, sustainability and workplace solutions. He is a devotee to achieving a positive impact on the through-life costings of residential, commercial, airport, retail, healthcare, educational and specialist facilities; he is now four years into his PhD, researching a Digitalisation road-map to be used in FM. He is member of IWFM’s SIG addressing CDE, digitalisation & BIM.
